I've experienced the amazing peace and joy that can come as a result of scheduling tasks this way! It felt SOO good to be standing at the finish line. But here I was, at the precipice of completion, when my phone rang. ☎️ My neighbor's name flashed on the screen. I hesitated. I wanted to finish my project! But then it hit me: I want my neighbors to be a priority, too. It wasn’t about choosing between work and people; it was about embracing both. A "yes, and..." So I answered. She wanted help re-homing a frog she found living in a vacuum cleaner hose in her garage. 🏡 Did I know anyone with a water feature in their yard? And did I want to see the adorable little guy? I couldn’t say no —she sounded enamored with him! As we sat on my front step and stared at this little green frog hopping up the side of the glass jar, I brainstormed options. Ooohh, this neighbor has a pond! I texted her. While she didn’t need a frog, she knew a couple who had just asked her how to find some frogs. We sprang into action, made introductions, and within an hour, the little frog had a new home. 😆 I’m still laughing about it. We saved a frog, all because we each wanted to help and knew someone who knew someone. This is why I love community and why I’ve been passionate about building a membership, not just a course. When we work together, sharing knowledge and supporting each other’s dreams, amazing things can happen. Whether it's a frog rescue or launching a new business, life is as impactful and inspiring as we allow it to be. And we each get to be a link in that beautiful chain. This whole experience reminded me that flexibility can be powerful when it aligns with your values. I didn’t lose anything by pausing my creative stint and switching tasks for a bit. In fact, I gained so much more. So, the next time you're deep in a task and get interrupted, ask yourself if it might be a “yes, and” scenario. I thought I’d introduce myself. I’m Amy. 👋 I thought I’d introduce myself. I’m Amy. 👋 I live in a little blue house in Vancouver, Washington (upper left coast of the US) and have been an entrepreneur for more than a dozen years. I help other women entrepreneurs learn to write and share their stories ✏️ for their business. In truth, it’s a course in confidence with some writing tips and tools thrown in. How did I get here? I got a degree in both writing and graphic design in the mid-90s, but I wasn’t a great writer. I was happier diagramming sentences and debating on which dictionary was the best. The most valuable life lesson I’ve discovered is that the power of storytelling lies in deciding what to share and what to leave out. This decision shapes the entire course of your story, and I've learned that it's best made by first determining your values. In my years at the branding agency, working with dozens of clients at a time, I had to create a system to quickly uncover a client’s story, understand their values as business owners, and then help them craft that story in a way their customers could understand and relate to. And then create a plan to help them keep telling that story. 🌟 That process is what you’ll find in my course: the secret sauce. 🌟 Why am I sharing it? Because I’m an entrepreneur. And I know the struggle to get what’s inside your heart and mind out into the world in a way that feels authentically you. It’s hard to hire that out. No matter how badly you want to do it yourself, your hands are tied because you don’t have the tools or process to know how to an accomplish it yourself. And that, my friend, is exactly how and why this course came to be. To untie your hands and set you free. What’s your origin story? I have 3 rescue chihuahuas, which means it’s noi I have 3 rescue chihuahuas, which means it’s noisy. The wind is blowing? 💨 Let’s bark. Someone steps on the gravel drive? Let’s bark. There’s a bee in the backyard? 🐝 Bark. A crow on the front lawn? Bark bark bark. Last week I finally bought them bark collars and wow do they showcase personalities. The little one? She barks out of curiosity. “Oooo, something new? What’s that? Hey mom, did you see it?” The chiweenie is stubborn as a rock. Her collar beeps and vibrates endlessly. She’s impossible to stop unless I physically grab her and talk her back down. And the old girl? She barks. It vibrates. She’s confused so barks again. After a few buzzes she remembers what’s going on and quiets down. I realized this morning I’m all 3 dogs from time to time. 🐶🐶🐶 While I don’t bark at the neighbors 😂 I DO: - Let my curiosity lead my down rabbit holes… 🐇 - Run endlessly in the wrong direction 🏃 with the best of intentions - Let confusion and indecision hold me back 🤷‍♀️ My bark collars look more like DND on my phone and airpods and shutting my office door. 😂😂😂 When that vision gets foggy or I don’t focus on the beautiful specifics of the outcomes, a coffee break sounds more attractive. Or a quick trip to Daiso. Or a romp in the yard with the pups. So while shopping trips and more coffee and puppy playtime are wonderful things and we all want to do them, they can often show up as an escape because we’re not quite sure of our next step. Or we’re afraid of success. Or worried we’ll fail. This, my friend, is exactly why I chose not to sell a stand-alone course. I chose to add in a membership so we have community. To ask questions, to gain clarity, to build relationship, and pursue gentle accountability. It’s all about a little word called *gestalt*. Together, we can all succeed. 😩 I’m not organized. If only I had a great pl 😩 I’m not organized. If only I had a great planner… 😩 I’m so distracted! If only I could shut out the noise… 😩 I’m so busy! If only I had more time… Do you say these things? Me too! I get distracted soooo easily. My top 2 strengths, Learner and Input, never satisfied so I’m forever researching and diving deep on off-the-wall topics. (Secret bunkers in the Swiss Alps? Check. Alpaca warning sounds? Check. Blue Jay diets? Check.) I have all sorts of hacks to counter these temptations: timers, alarms, Spotify channels, multiple workspaces in my home, efficient meal planning, a killer Notion setup….on and on and on. But I must admit that most of the time, my distractions come down to insecurity. What?! Did I just admit that out loud on the internet? *GULP* 😱 Yep. Either I’m not quite sure of my next step. Or I’m afraid of success. Or worried I’ll fail. Do you sometimes feel this way too? The best solution I’ve found? Keep my eyes on the prize 🤩 and continually remind myself of what I want most of all. Because when my vision gets foggy or I don’t focus on the beautiful specifics of the outcome, almost anything sounds more attractive than facing the fear. ✅ How much discomfort will I endure to get it? ✅ How much momentary pleasure will I give up to reach it? I have big dreams for this business ✨, both personally and for my clients. When I keep them in my sights, it’s SO easy to stay on track. I’m excited and focused and not much gets in my way. I have sticky notes and reminders all over my house to keep those dreams front and center. And guess what? They’re coming true. 🦄 What’s your biggest distraction?
